Snow Days

It's another snowy day in Dublin. The kids did not have school today for Martin Luther King Jr Day. And it's a good thing. I'm not sure that they would have had it anyway. We've received another 2 or 3 inches of snow today. The kids had a snow day last Monday (mostly due to ice). Then on this past Friday it was a 2-hour early dismissal due to ice and snow. We've been doing our best to make the most of the weather.

Last Monday on the first snow day, we spent the morning in jammies. Colin was busy reading (as usual) and the girls were practicing for their upcoming Star-Spangled Banner performance. I had the pleasure of hearing them both sing the anthem multiple times and not in sync. They like listening to it on their headphones while watching a YouTube video with the words and singing along.

The mid part of last week saw the snow melt and then we got to enjoy warm weather with some basketball practice.

By the end of the week though, it was snowmageddon here. I found myself at the grocery store for milk and a few other essentials on Friday morning and it was quite the line. That day, Colin got out two hours early, just before the ice and snow hit. The snow left us with two cancelled basketball games on Saturday. We were disappointed since those were the first games of the season, and we will be missing game #2 (which is now the first game of the season). But what can you do.

The kids didn't seem to mind too much. Julia and Caroline had two birthday parties that they could now fully attend, instead of missing the first half of each due to basketball. Colin spent a solid 6 or 7 hours playing with his neighborhood friends both inside and out. And the girls and I made a few snow men. Although they look more like snow blobs. It was not good packing snow.

Today with a few fresh inches of snow, we headed to the sledding hill. This is our second trip this year. Unfortunately we broke one sled last time. So we are left with only two for three kids. I called several places around town, but I guess sleds are a hot commodity these days. Everywhere was sold out. Even with two, we still had fun and stayed for well over an hour. They kids did a fantastic job sharing and helping each other pull the sled back up the hill.

I'm mostly enjoying the snow, although I need to go shovel again. It's given me a real itch to go snowboarding and skiing with the kids.
