Audubon Center

We had a nice visit this morning to the Grange Insurance Audubon Center.  We went there expecting story time, but due to some incorrect information on a website, we arrived a day early.  Today instead they had a preschool education program and we were the only ones there (and by accident).  They basically let us do whatever we wanted.

Colin had lots of fun playing with Traci, the education instructor.  They had plenty of animal puppets in a play tree house.  Colin got to be a fox and eat raccoons, a wood pecker and peck at a tree, a bee and pollinate flowers, and many other animals.  He also dressed up as a cardinal for a while.  Then Traci took us to see the aquariums with turtles, fish, toads, and frogs.  She also read a few stories to the kids.  The girls enjoyed playing in the tree house and climbing structure they had.

After our play time, we went to their library to read a book.  They have a lot of bird feeders outside the library to view and microphones at the feeders so you can hear the birds in the library.  It was pretty neat and relaxing to sit and watch/listen.  We plan to go back again for story time and to enjoy the nature trails and outdoor areas when it is a bit warmer.

Caroline couldn't make it all the way home.  Julia had to fight, but she made it.

  2. Keith-the center you described reminds me of the nature center at Highbanks on 23. There is a quarterly guide that comes out with all the activities at the different parks, and I remember taking Jack and Eli there for nature pre-school education programs. They liked them alot-you should check it out if you haven't already.
