Spring Break 2017

Spring Break has come and gone. I think all three kids enjoyed their time off, but are all ready to go back to school. Here are some of our highlights.

Monday took us on a bike ride to two parks. First we went to what the kids deemed American Ninja Warrior Park. We had the whole playground to ourselves, which was nice for a while, but soon got boring. So we headed to another park on the way home. Caroline practiced more on the monkey bars and Julia tried to fine tune her skills a little more. She's got a few extra pounds to swing, but I'm sure that she'll get it soon.

Tuesday we went to COSI. It had been a year since we were last there, our membership expired just after Spring Break last year. We saw some of the standing exhibits as well as a traveling one called Mindbender Mansion which had lots of puzzles, mazes, and optical illusions. The kids really enjoyed that. Julia and Caroline especially liked the mazes. There was also a new exhibit by Honda that demonstrated some of the technology in their cars, but most everyone's favorite part of that was the simulated ATV driving. Since Colin is too old, we skipped the kids play space this time. Instead we went to the planetarium and saw a Magic Treehouse space show. All three, but especially Colin, enjoyed the show.

Wednesday was a stay at home day. We made some Monster Cookies to take on our trip to Naperville and then got things ready to hit the road.

Thursday was our travel day up to Naperville. We met Grandma and Grandpa on the way for lunch at Cracker Barrel.

Friday was a fun day at Shedd Aquarium. We drove to the cold lakefront and met Heather, Aiden, and Grandma and Grandpa. Heather got us some awesome tickets including several of the special shows and exhibits. All the kids had a great time. After that, we went back to Heather's for a taco bar and to celebrate Aiden's birthday.

Saturday was spent at Jeff's house with a nice visit from Grandma and Grandpa, the Wendells, Aunt Terry, and Uncle Joe. The weather was nice and we were able to spend most of the day outside playing, eating, and visiting. And we finally got to do our Christmas grab bag gifts, just a few months late. Julia and Caroline also had fun that evening sharing the yoga poses that they learned at school and learning some new things from Auntie Erica.

Spring Break was pretty good, at least for me, and I think the kids (and Maggie) enjoyed it too.
