Private Lessons

Yesterday was our second week of ski lessons. Last week we were headed there, but turned around about halfway when it started to rain. Being wet and cold didn't sound like much fun to anyone. This week the weather was better, and they even had a few inches of fresh (man-made) snow.

I got some rental skis with the girls this time to give it a try. Even with about 20 kids and their corresponding adults, I was the only new skier there. Not totally new I guess, but more than 20 years removed from a set of skis. So I got a quick private lesson. One of the instructors spent about 15 minutes with me going over some of the same things that I heard in the girls lesson. Make your skis look like french fries to go, pizza to stop, and duck feet to walk up a hill. I was also taught the basics of turning and went down the bunny slope once with my instructor, Pat, before being sent off on my own. I made about 8 runs down the bunny hill. It was pretty fun and I only fell once.

The girls seemed to be doing well too, but I didn't watch nearly as much as the first lesson. I think that might have helped Caroline. She seems to be a better listener and have a better attitude for her instructors than for me. They both made several runs down the bunny slope, focusing more on turning this week. They even got some steering wheels to help keep their upper body in the right position when turning.

We'll see how things progress again next week. The girls are getting better and more comfortable with every run. Next week I'm heading up the lift.
